McAllen, Texas — A 27-year-old man, identified as Ryan Luis Mosqueda, was shot dead Monday morning following a shootout with law enforcement near a U.S. Border Patrol annex.
According to McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez, Mosqueda was connected to a vehicle with Michigan license plates. The circumstances surrounding his presence and motives are currently under investigation by the FBI.
The incident began shortly before dawn. At 5:53 a.m., the McAllen Police Department received a report that a masked individual was walking toward the Border Patrol annex building, while "30 to 60 gunshots" were reportedly heard nearby. Six minutes later, at 5:59 a.m., officers on scene reported that the suspect had been neutralized.
Preliminary information indicates that Mosqueda opened fire at the entrance to the annex before being confronted by federal and local officers. The exchange of gunfire resulted in the suspect's death. No officers were injured during the incident.
Local authorities are working closely with the FBI to determine the exact circumstances of this attack, including the motives that led Mosqueda to act in this manner.
