A low-speed collision occurred late Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York, when two Endeavor Air CRJ-900 jets, operating under the Delta Connection brand, struck each other on a taxiway intersection.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the incident happened shortly before 10:00 p.m. local time, at the junction of taxiways M and A.

Details of the Incident

The arriving flight, Delta Connection 5047, inbound from Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT) with 61 people on board, was taxiing toward its gate when the departing Delta Connection 5155, scheduled for Roanoke, Virginia, clipped it with its right wing.

Witnesses described the impact as “violent,” tearing part of the wing of Flight 5155 and smashing the nose section and cockpit windshield of Flight 5047.

Injuries and Passenger Evacuation

Only one injury was reported: a flight attendant sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was transported to a hospital as a precaution.
No passengers were hurt.

Both aircraft were evacuated directly on the taxiway. Passengers were then transported by bus to the terminal. Delta confirmed that affected travelers were accommodated in hotels and rebooked on later flights.

FAA and NTSB Launch Investigations

Preliminary findings suggest an operational ground error, as Flight 5155 had reportedly been instructed to hold position and yield to Flight 5047. The exact cause remains under investigation by both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

Despite the collision, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed that airport operations at LaGuardia continued without disruption.

Aviation Safety Context

While considered a low-speed collision, the incident highlights persistent risks in ground operations at high-traffic airports like LaGuardia.
Experts note that even minor taxiway collisions can result in costly repairs, operational delays, and safety concerns requiring heightened vigilance.
