Violence in Savien: Fire, kidnappings and fear among residents

A night of terror struck the town of Savien on the night of Saturday 9 to Sunday 10 December 2023, leaving behind a provisional toll of rare violence. The bandits, carrying out a terrorist attack, set fire to a house belonging to a food merchant named Vania, destroying all its contents. Two motorcycles were reduced to ashes and about four people were kidnapped by these criminals, among whom two were identified by the inhabitants: Kapo and Naïka.

One of the criminals, identified as Eudriche Altidort, alias "Rat", is believed to have instigated the fire and kidnappings. Shots were fired in the area, causing panic among residents who had to flee to the mountains for safety.

The bandits appeared to be aiming to take control of Pont-sondé, an attempt that was apparently difficult due to the resistance of a local group. The operation had a devastating impact, forcing many residents to abandon their homes and seek refuge in the surrounding mountains.

However, despite initial reports of several houses being burned, journalists on the scene found that only one house had been burned to the ground. This confusion has left residents uncertain as to the fate of the missing people, not knowing whether they were abducted by the bandits or are still hiding in the mountains, unable to return home.

Tensions are running high among the families and residents of Savien and La Poterie. The outcome of the events remains unclear, fueling great concern and deep disillusionment among the local population. The lingering fear lies in the uncertain fate of the missing persons and the question of their safety remains at the centre of concerns.

Television broadcasts, particularly Pyramide FM, have relayed the extent of the emotion and concern felt by residents in the face of this chaotic situation. Families are anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones, seeking to understand what happened and hoping for the return of those reported missing in this night of unprecedented violence in Savien.
